Title of the ESTIMATION AND MODEL SELECTION FOR Dissertation FINITE MIXTURES OF LATENT INTERACTION MODELS Jui-Chen Hsu, Doctor of Philosophy, 2011 Directed by Professor Gregory R. Hancock, Department of Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation Professor Jeffrey R. Harring, Department of Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation Latent interaction models and mixture models have received considerable attention in social science research recently, but little is known about how to handle if unobserved population heterogeneity exists in the endogenous latent variables of the nonlinear structural equation models. The current study estimates a mixture of latent interaction models using an unconstrained product indicator approach. It also investigates the performance of the method in parameter recovery, classification quality, and identification of the correct number of latent classes using data simulated under a variety of conditions. The major findings of this study are (1) class separation in the factor means is a critical factor influencing parameter recovery and classification results; (2) the relative biases (or bias) for the class-specific interaction effects are larger than those of other parameters; (3) the precision of all structural parameter estimates for the conditions with larger separation are satisfactory; (4) entropy values, correct assignment probabilities, and convergence rates are improved for larger separation models; (5) AIC, BIC, and ABIC all support the two-class models over one-class models regardless data are generated from oneor two-class latent interaction models. The Negative Binomial Distribution Efficiency in Finite Mixture of Semi-parametric Generalized Linear Models

Introduction Selection the appropriate statistical model for the response variable is one of the most important problem in the finite mixture of generalized linear models. One of the distributions which it has a problem in a finite mixture of semi-parametric generalized statistical models, is the Poisson distribution. In this paper, to overcome over dispersion and computational burden, finite ...

A comparison of algorithms for maximum likelihood estimation of Spatial GLM models

In spatial generalized linear mixed models, spatial correlation is assumed by adding normal latent variables to the model. In these models because of the non-Gaussian spatial response and the presence of latent variables the likelihood function cannot usually be given in a closed form, thus the maximum likelihood approach is very challenging. The main purpose of this paper is to introduce two n...

Selection of Appropriate Conversion Model for 137CS Method in Erosion and Sediment Studies In Loess Deposits in North-East of Iran

Soil erosion is one of the effective elements on soil destruction. Many empirical and theoretical models has been developed for soil erosion estimation 137 Cs technique is used as new and accurate method in this case across world. For applying this technique on computing erosion and sediment rate, an appropriate conversion model should be selected. For this propose in this study proportional, m...

Bayesian Density Regression and Predictor-dependent Clustering

JU-HYUN PARK: Bayesian Density Regression and Predictor-Dependent Clustering. (Under the direction of Dr. David Dunson.) Mixture models are widely used in many application areas, with finite mixtures of Gaussian distributions applied routinely in clustering and density estimation. With the increasing need for a flexible model for predictor-dependent clustering and conditional density estimation...
